This year we delivered another two Penske truck loads of toys, books, cookies, juice, water and food to 5 locations in the Gulf. We also shipped another 3 trucks by redirecting shippments from New York to Mississippi and Alabama. We had 20 guys on the trip and were able to deliver toys to over 8,000 children once again. This marked our 10th trip since Hurricane Katrina and it was our 8th toy drive. It is our estimation that since we started we have delivered a toy to over 68,000 needy children in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
We also expanded our operation to include a distribution Long Beach New York due to the need in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We also supplied toys to Gerrison Beach New York as well as Broad Channel New York. We estimate that we provided at least 3,000 toys to children in New York as well.
Our plan is to attempt another toy drive for next year,December 2013, since it is the 12 year anniversary of 9/11 and we were started through a charity formed by Frank Siller which was named the 9/11 Families for Katrina Relief. It is our goal to honor everyone lost that day by displaying the human spirit through helping others in need.
